CxC FAQ & Policies

Care instructions

Food-safe Stoneware is Lightweight, Durable, and Top Rack Dishwasher Safe. As with any kitchen dish, handle with care, be gentle, and don't overload the dishwasher to avoid chips over time. It’s also Microwave Safe. For oven use, avoid thermal shock by gradually heating temperature heat with piece.

NOTE: Pieces with 22 Karat Gold Luster decoration (marked as such) are not microwave safe due to real metal content and dishwashing is not recommended to extend life of shiny finish.

Pieces for decor only (vases, pots) may not be food-safe and utilize more fragile glazes that are not dinnerware or food safe. I do not use any non-food safe glazes on vessels meant for food in the kitchen.

Packaging & Gift Wrap

Items are carefully wrapped and packed to prevent damage during shipping, using recycled and re-used packaging as well as compostable peanuts that dissolve in water. Where possible, CxC believes in saving the planet 🌎❤️

I offer gift wrapping at checkout for an added fee. Gift wrapped pieces will be wrapped in CxC craft paper with a gold tie as well as a hand-written note on CxC stationary from the sender and will be sealed with a CxC iridescent Wax Seal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, we provide free US standard shipping on all orders $35+. For orders under $35, a small shipping fee applies, which will be shown at checkout.

Yes, we offer discounts, and select CxC pieces may go on sale a few times a year during annual sales.

I am no longer offering custom or made to order at this time. I also have personalized pieces in the past, but it depends on the piece. If you see something that’s sold out or see a color you love instead, I’d be happy to chat with you and add your request to my queue to make your pieces in my next kiln batch. Message me with the out of stock piece & color, plus any design changes or suggestions for your pieces and I’ll get back to you with an ETA!

Yes, where possible, I keep the planet in mind from the way I work in my garage studio with water to how I package my pieces for shipping — I actually re-use 95% of the boxes I get to my house, flip them inside out, re-brand, tape, and fill them with compostable dissolvable peanuts to use again for CxC. It takes extra time to do these extra steps and extra money to buy the compostable or recycled versions of packing materials — but it’s important for me to reduce my footprint and use less.

I also buy and pick up supplies by electric car from my local ceramics supply businesses, like Aardvark and Laguna, and my local studio. Much of my clay is locally made here in Southern California, and I support Made in USA ceramic companies to reduce environmental effects.

Stoneware is a mid fire clay that offers excellent durability for everyday use and can be top-rack dishwasher safe (like ours!). It’s fired at higher temperatures (around 2100-2300°F) vs. Earthenware, resulting in a stronger higher-density, non-porous, and durable material that is highly resistant to chipping, cracking, and absorbing liquids. Porcelain, which is fired at an even higher temperature is often translucent and more delicate, typically reserved for fine dining.

CxC Stoneware is very lightweight and durable. While Stoneware is a durable material, it does NOT have to be heavy in weight. The clay thickness of the walls directly corresponds to the weight of the piece. Every ceramicist has a certain style or way of throwing on the pottery wheel — my personal style is to throw pieces on the pottery wheel with thin walls and bases to reduce weight as much as possible, which to me, makes the piece more functional for everyday use. When I throw, I like to use my fingers on each side of the walls so I can feel the clay thickness. It’s very intuitive for me and I like to say “I become one with the clay!”

Yes! Many of my mug and bowl releases are sold in sets or have quantities of more than one available -- I love making sets. If you see something you want or have any ideas, I am open to making you a custom set in my next kiln batch.

I, Courtney, make and fire all pieces in Southern California, in the coastal city of Costa Mesa. I start with a lump of clay on the pottery wheel and hand paint every piece at my home, and I rent full kiln loads from my local studio, Costa Mesa Ceramics.
